Strong county support is critical for winning elections. David saw this first hand in 2022. When faced with a better funded candidate from the Treasure Valley in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate he focused on the only option he had available, actually getting out and talking to the voters. He traveled the state, attended events, knocked with candidates, and most importantly listened to the needs of the counties. On primary night, the vote was the closest for any Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Idaho since 1990 and David’s county-based strategy paid off carrying 41 of the 44 counties in the state. David achieved the highest percentage of votes against Mike Crapo of any Democrat who has ever opposed him for the Senate seat.
